Cambodia Surpasses Last Para Games Medal Tally

PHNOM PENH: The Cambodian para-athletes surpassed their initial target of 56 medals, which included 8 gold, 21 silver, and 27 bronze. This extraordinary success speaks volumes about the determination, skill, and dedication demonstrated by the Cambodian contingent at the ongoing 12th ASEAN Para Games.

The 12th ASEAN Para Games 2023 in Phnom Penh has witnessed Cambodia's remarkable success, as the nation secured so far a total of 66 medals, including 9 gold, 19 silver, and 38 bronze. These exceptional achievements by Cambodian para-athletes have garnered widespread acclaim and pride across the nation.

Day six powerlifting proved to be a standout discipline for Cambodia, as two of the three gold medals were clinched in the Men's Up to 107 kg and Men's Up 107 kg (Total Lift) events. The third gold medal was earned in the High Jump T46 event, highlighting the country's diversity in sporting prowess.

As the host country, Cambodia currently holds the 8th position on the Medal Table among the 11 participating nations. They trail behind Singapore, which has secured 35 medals (10 gold, 14 silver, and 11 bronze), but are ahead of Brunei Darussalam with 8 medals (3 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze).

Indonesia maintains its stronghold at the top of the Medal Table with an astounding 315 medals (128 gold, 118 silver, and 69 bronze), followed by Thailand with 245 medals (96 gold, 87 silver, and 62 bronze), and Vietnam with 187 medals (60 gold, 52 silver, and 75 bronze).

The 12th ASEAN Para Games 2023 officially commenced on June 3 under the motto "Sport: Live in Peace." This regional sporting extravaganza will continue until June 9, featuring 14 sports including Athletics, Badminton, Boccia, Chess, 5-a-side Football, 7-a-side Football, Goalball, Judo, Powerlifting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Sitting Volleyball, Wheelchair Basketball, and E-sports (Demonstration).

Looking back at the 11th ASEAN Para Games held in Solo, Indonesia in 2022, Cambodia proudly secured 28 medals (7 gold, 10 silver, and 11 bronze). This year's achievements demonstrate the continued growth and progress of Cambodian para-athletes, inspiring a nation and setting new benchmarks for future success.
